The Stormwater Drains dataset has been derived by updating the 2005 dataset with data obtained from Local Government Councils. Not all council areas have been updated since 2005.

PURPOSE: The dataset was developed to provide a single master dataset of stormwater infrastructure and to match data across council boundaries.
USE: Used for planning for the capture and re-use of stormwater, mitigation of flood risk and potential hydrological modelling .

ESRI ArcInfo GIS software was used to build a geometric network and check for connectivity and flow direction, where possible.
The stormwater dataset is incomplete. Updates and new data are added to the dataset on a irregular basis, as councils continue to collect asset information.

The Department of Water, Land and Biodiversity Conservation (DWLBC) has previously updated stormwater data from 20 councils in the Adelaide metropolitan and Adelaide Hills areas for several years. The work undertaken by DWLBC involved contacting each council to obtain their latest stormwater datasets, importing into a standardized format, and updating and correcting a master dataset. This ensured that cross council boundary data inconsistencies were minimized. Extracts of the standardized data were then provided back to each council, and state government agencies. The last previous update was conducted in 2005.
